Write about the Moon.
work in progress etc

Big round and pale blue grey white
I want to bite
Take a chunk out of you
I wonder how you might taste
Chalky
Asbestos
Like dry cheese
Or maybe you disintegrate and melt like
Sugar candy
Or perhaps I could slice you and pickle you up
Like a rubber ball
Or an onion
You do make me cry sometimes

Sometimes you’re big and yellow and screaming at me
Sometimes red and glowing and unbelievably close
Right at my doorstep
Why hello

I love it when I catch you like this
I try to capture you with my two little grubby hands
Impatient, immediate
in vain

You are beautiful
But all I have is an after image, a memory
And someone standing next to me
who saw you too

Sometimes you’re distant, like a little punch hole stamp in the sky
If I jumped into you I’d tumble into
A new world of iridescent, swirling white

And sometimes I catch you smiling at me
From the corner of my eye
Before it’s your time
A little cheeky grin
A flash, a twinkle
Amidst pink and orange and pale purple
And then you’re gone

I want to tap you
Thump you
Chew on you
Throw you off the wall
Watch you bounce back
Wear you around my neck
Use you to cut fruits
Lie in your crescent and fall asleep

Sometimes I think of the fact that we all see the same moon
Everyone who has ever lived knows exactly what im talking about

And I think of all the prayers, promises, under-breath whispers
You must have received
All the vain awkward silly poetry recited to you
All the searching eyes that have laid eyes on you
All the times someone has tried to squish you between their fingers

I imagine that’s what you taste like
Wide eyed fascination, icy longing, itching desire
Melancholia, sadness, a black hole
Like everything
Sometimes nothing

You shapeshifting weird strange creature
I like you a lot
